Miss Teenage Canada 2016 and I!!!

The excitement of finally being here hit as soon as the Sponsor party began. I was so excited to meet all of the other beautiful delegates. All of the girls are so sweet and supportive it is truly and honour to be apart of the 2017 Miss Teenage Canada Pageant.

The 2017 Search for Miss Teenage Canada Sponsor Party took place in the Meeting Room at the Edward Village Hotel in Toronto Ontario at approximately 6:30 on Monday August 7th, 2017.

After some opening speeches by Michelle and Rob, everyone was eggar to visit all of the sponsor tables that had been set up.

Our assigned Sashes with our Provinces name on the front were all laid out on display to be claimed. I am contestant number 28 which is used for so many things this week such as role call and must be written on all of our things to ensure they do not get mixed up.

Love the shoes!!!

Our absolutely stunning shoes donated from Nine West were on display and we were encouraged to take photos and share them with friends and family. We will receive the shoes later in the week when the orders are sorted and they have all arrived. I am so very grateful for the shoes we will be given the are beautiful and will help me to be confident while taking part in the pageant.

Most Miss Teenage Canada Sponsors are small to medium sized businesses run by entrepreneurs who see great value in supporting youth and this once in a lifetime experience. This pageant is a perfect partner for each of their enterprises because all of the delegates and myself will share with everyone the thoughtful gifts and the business name.

Rob himself was quite busy running the Archer Dental booth and giving away dental supplies, toothbrushes and toothpaste from the famous Toronto dentist Dr Natalie Archer. She is a local business leader who shows great talent in sciences, and who has supported the pageant for many years.                                                                                          We are all extremely grateful for your gifts.

Lilly Liao from Street Chic fashion magazine was there. Lily’s team published over thirty fashion blogs, submitted by over half of the Miss Teenage Canada delegates including myself. Her magazine is so unique and diverse. I really enjoyed writing this piece for them and I had so much fun putting it together. If I had one word of advice for Lily regarding her magazine I would say keep up the good work, I absolutely loved reading everyones articles. The link to my own article on Street Chic is, http://streetchic.ca/2017/07/30/small-town-girl-fashion-in-nova-scotia/

Lily gave everyone a new pair of earrings, the ones I selected were beautiful diamond earrings and I am so excited to wear them.Dahlia DeSouza from UptotheTime Watches was present and at her table to display many attractive time pieces from their online catalog. In addition to receiving a necklace, we were asked to select the watch we would pick if we received the title of Miss Teenage Canada title next Sunday night.

Dahlia is wonderful and so generous to donate all of these amazing prizes. Thank You!!!

Judy who is a music teacher at the Wandering Minstrel Music School in Mississauga was in attendance running an Instagram #MTCSongSolo challenge.

Delegates were invited to select instruments and record a musical performance an to post it on Instagram using the #songselfie hashtag. The prize for the video with the most likes at the end of the night on wednesday will win a new cordless microphone.

Hashtagio social media aggregator was set up to show the Instagram feed for #MTC2017. Such as they have done in pervious years, all the beautiful shots are being collected and displayed on the website in a special Go Behind the Scenes via Instagram page.

This service is co-sponsored by Standard Telecom and throughout the week we are encouraged to use our cell phones and mobile devices to post our best moments using that hashtag, Super Adorbs

Super Adorbs accessories will accentuate any outfit. They are so unique, cute and stylish. I can not wait to show off my beautiful new headband.

There Headquartered are located here in Toronto, the company sells online all across Canada; Superadorbs is built with feminine style for individual expression.

Super Adorbs jewellery and fashion accessories gave us all cute little gift bags filled with so many cute assesories.

Super Adorbs table was run by Alice Li, Miss Toronto World 2017 who returned to the very room where she was a VIP delegate receiving gifts from sponsors less than a month ago.  Alice placed fourth in the 2017 Search for Miss World Canada pageant. Congratulations Alice!!

Day one was an absolutely unforgettable experience and I am looking forward to spending the week with and getting to know the other beautiful delegates.

“Fashion in Nova Scotia is so individualized and unique. Walking down the streets of our small town you can see just how diverse fashion can be. As the present Miss Teenage Northern Nova Scotia, fashion is a large part of why I decided to enter this pageant and today I am going to share with you some street fashion I have come across

Coming from the small town of Pictou, Nova Scotia, dressing up may seem a bit out of the norm. Many people say “when you live in a small town where everybody knows everybody there is no need for dressing up fancy”.  But this may be when its MOST important! Small town or big city, what girl doesn’t love picking out an outfit, getting her nails done, doing makeup and styling her hair. Just because we come from a small town it doesn’t mean we need to compromise our individual desire for fashion.”

This week I was given the opportunity to write a article for an online magazine StreetChic. I had the most amazing time writing and seeing this piece come to life. I’m so excited to share this with you and I hope you enjoy reading it.

StreetChic online magazine is only two months old and is expanding greatly. I am grateful to be apart of such a wonderful website that shows great diversity in style.

The Northumberland Shore in Nova Scotia is home to spectacular sand beaches and warm water of the Northumberland Strait. With 450 kilometers of coastline, more than thirty fine-sand beaches and thousands of kilometres of hiking trails to explore. With so much beauty in this coast line to chose from, it is astounding that one small place in particular stands out to me. Caribou-Munroes Island Provincial Park in Caribou, Nova Scotia.

As an avid traveler and explorer choosing just one place was a difficult task but there is no place I love more than home. I am fortunate enough to live somewhere where the beach is never far. I have been to so many beaches across Nova Scotia and have fallen in love with all for many different reasons. I have always been a lover of the ocean and everything it holds. From building sandcastles, fishing, swimming and boating the beach holds so many chances for great memories. With memories I have made and the beauty of the beach I have surely found my favourite

Throughout the day the Park serves as a excellent place of relaxation with a great deal to do. The park is a great place for Picnics and barbecues, beach days, swimming, walking/hiking or laying out and enjoying the summer weather. The sandy beach appears almost never ending while you walk for miles along the coast. But as day falls to night the park only becomes prettier. The sunsets of Nova Scotia are unlike any other especially on the beach. Caribou Park is the perfect location to walk the beach and watch the sun go down. Once the sunset is over, your time at the park does not have to be. You can enjoy the great outdoors a bit longer at the campground located at the park. The campground is enjoyed by many and is a great family friendly wilderness experience for all.

I have been going to Caribou-Munroes Island Provincial Park for as long as I can recall. Some of my favourite memories including class trips, birthday parties and beach days have taken place at Caribou Park. In Grade seven my school took us on a class trip to Caribou Park where we had “field day” filled with games and team building activities followed by a barbeque. Having all of my classmates with me made for such a special memory which I will cherish forever. Secondly, I have attended many parties at this park which are some of the oldest memories I hold. This is yet another amazing experience with my friends and family that has taken part at such a wonderful location. Lastly, beach days at Caribou Park are a must with my friends and family. It is a wonderful peaceful place to bond with friends and pass the time. With fond memories such as these, Caribou Park will always hold a place in my heart.

Caribou-Munroes Island Provincial Park is one of the most recognized beaches in my home town. It is certainly the most visited and walked upon beach by my friends and I. Last summer this was certainly mine and my friends favourite place to be. Ethan, Jake, Josh, Robbie and I spend the majority of our summer days swimming at this beach. Me being the first one in the water, Usually not by choice. With most of my friends being boys I was usually persuaded to play catch, frisbee and football which I’m not the best at but it is still a very fun way to pass the time. It was that summer at Caribou Park where our friendships started and ever since then has continued to grow with those fond memories to reminisce on.

This year, My senior prom photos were taken at the Pictou Lodge and Beach Front resort which is located on the Caribou-Munroes Island beach. The beautiful beach made a wonderful background for photos. Prom is such a memorable event and I’m so happy I will be able to look back and have my favourite place in all of my greatest memories.

I am so grateful I received the opportunity to share Caribou-Munroes Island Beach with you all. If you are ever in Nova Scotia this is defiantly a place to visit.

As my time in high school has come to a close I believe I must reflect on all of the long-lasting memories. As I have mentioned before Pictou Academy is a small high school consisting of grades nine to twelve. The small size of our school has given my graduating class the opportunity to become very close. Living in such a small town these are the people I grew up with.

I have gone to school with the same people since I began school in grade primary at Pictou Elementary School. Throughout the years we have watched each other grow and learn as long-lasting friendships were created. Lucas, Mac, Abygail, Olivia, Tim, Maddi thank you all for everything you have done for me I greatly appreciate all of you. I don’t know what I will do without some of you next year but I will be sure to keep in touch.

Pictou Academy Break Up Prom took place on Monday June 26. The day started with my friend Halle who did my beautiful prom makeup. After makeup I went straight to the hair salon where Megan did my beautiful hair. Following hair, my date Lucas and I when to Pictou Lodge for pictures. What a magical night we had filled with photos, friends, and dancing. Although our fun filled night had came to an end I couldn’t be upset because that meant I was one day closer to graduation.

Graduation day, the day iv been working towards for thirteen years. What a world-wind of emotions. I will miss all of my teachers and fellow graduates. Thank you for everything you have done for me over the years I couldn’t have done it without you.

With all of this excitement coming to an end my journey as Miss Teenage Northern Nova Scotia is just beginning. I can’t wait to share more of my life experiences with you.

Hello! I am Lindsey, your Miss Teenage Northern Nova Scotia 2017! I am eager to share this incredible journey with you. But to begin I think its important you get to know me. I am 17 years old born and raised in the small town of Pictou, Nova Scotia. Our town has a strong sense of community and much history attached. I will be graduating from Pictou Academy, one of the oldest high schools in Canada, in June. Our school itself holds so much history and pride. We are a small graduating class of only 31 which has given us the opportunity to become very close. I am looking forward to seeing all of my fellow classmates pursue their dreams and accomplish their goals. With my high school career coming to an end, I am looking forward to beginning a new adventure at Saint Francis Xavier University. In the Fall of 2017, I will enter into the Bachelor of Science in Human Kinetics Program at St.fx.

I am involved in many extra circulars within my school. I have been a part of Students Council as a class representative, Yearbook as a senior photographer, grad and school clothing committee as the head, and also a member of prom committee. Additionally, I am involved in my schools track and field team as a sprinter and a jumper. This diverse group of committees has taught me much about working as a team and has created many strong friendships.

In addition to all of my school activities, I am involved in many community sports. I am an accomplished highland dancer who has had the opportunity to represented Nova Scotia twice at the Canadian Championship. Dance was a big part of my life until age 13 when the sport of gymnastics became my main focus. Gymnastics requires a great deal of dedication as I train 13 plus hours every week at the Pictou County Gymnastics Club. With much hard work I have also made team Nova Scotia for gymnastics while qualifying for the Atlantic Championship.

As well as being involved in many sports I have also taken part in a great deal of music and theatre. I have taken piano and fiddle lessons for many years and with the knowledge I gained from those I self taught myself guitar. I have also been involved in many school musicals and plays including Oliver, Fiddler on the Roof, The Wizard of Oz and The Truth about Cinderella.

Lastly, I wouldn’t be where I am today without the help and support of my wonderful family. I come from a close knit family of four, with my amazing parents David and Denise and my older sister Harmony. I couldn’t ask for better parents. They are incredibly caring and supportive of everything I am involved in. I am beyond grateful to say that my beautiful sister doubles as my best friend. She is 22 years old and is currently enrolled in the Education program at Saint Francis Xavier University. I am extreamly proud of my sister and everything she has done. She has been such an amazing role model for me throughout the years.

I have always dreamed about walking across a huge stage competing for the title Miss Teenage Canada! Who would have thought coming from a small town like New Glasgow, I would be lucky enough to get the chance to compete for Miss Teenage Canada! Im going to come home with so much, a experience to last a life time, new friends and so much more! I have always loved performing on stage, or even just performing for anyone who would just sit and watch! Miss Teenage Canada partners with Free The Children this is such a great cause and I am very happy I get to raise money for them and support children around the world who are less fortunate than me! Free The Children was founded in 1995 created by Criag Kielburger who was only 12 years old, he gathered 11 school friends to help fight child labour! I had the great fortunate to meet Nazanin Afahin-Jam. Nazanin was crowned Miss World Canada and Miss world Americas in 2003 as well as Miss world runner up. She is a strong human rights activist and an inspiration to girls and women!

When I began this journey several months ago, I had no idea how both challenging and exhiliarating it would be.  I’ve been humbled by the community support I have received from both friends and strangers.  I have met and received tremendous support from a former Miss Teen Canada contestant from the 1980’s.  This wonderful lady has persued and has a successful career in provincial politics.  She is a huge asset to our community.  I feel that the Miss Teenage Canada produces many future leaders and humanitarians.   I am confident that I can go forward and change the world in a positive manner.

Miss Teenage Canada  produces wonderful young women who know that inner beauty and confidence will lead them to great things in the future.  It teaches all delegates that being a positive role model in your community is of the utmost  importance.  Miss Teenage Canada delegates leave the experience changed for the better, they go on to become strong young women who are the future of the vast nation we live in.

My platform is mental health and I really wanted to learn so much more then I already knew,  I had the chance to go to a support group fro mental health and just listen in and ask questions. I was very nervous to go at first not knowing what to expect but once I got there I became very comfortable and everyone was so kind and brave!

This was defintley very different then just sitting in my class room listening to my teacher and reading books on different types of mental health but getting to meet real people who struggle with it everyday,  it was so different to hear their stories and to understand just a little bit more of what they go through it was truly amazing and they are such amazing strong people!

All the people I met were all so brave and were all role models to me. I learned so much and it was definitley a experience i will never forget,  I was shocked and very sad to hear some stories but other stories were for sure positive.

I truly believe no body understands what people go through every day not even a doctor no one understands unless you are going through it too. The stigmas NEED to be removed and to do that we all need to work together.

I left the meeting feeling very grateful but also so sad for people that have to go through that everyday I know it can’t be easy but this is why i chose mental health for my platform and I believe someday I will make a difference!
